Second Language Acquisition(SAL)

This course introduces learners to the field of second language acquisition (SLA), which is concerned with the process of how a second language is learnt. The field of SLA investigates (a) universal features of L2 learners and L2 learning process, (b) the relationship between individual difference and ultimate success in L2 acquisition, and (c) social dimensions of L2 learning. The course will be conducted via lectures by the instructor and via student-led workshops. Learners will be expected to contribute to planned and spontaneous discussions in class. By the end of the course, learners are expected to become familiar with theories, methods and findings in the field of SLA and to be able to relate what they have learnt from the course to their own L2 learning experiences.
