Course Type: General

Reading Classics Written in English

The course aims to introduce to students the literary classics written in English from three angles. First, we will read the works of some canonical British and American writers, such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Ernest Hemingway. The second part of reading materials focuses on works of Irish and Canadian writers, such as James Joyce and Michael Ondaatje. This selection aims to conceptualize the impact of imperialism (colonialism) expressed through these works. The final project of this course touches upon the film adaptation of these literary classics. Students are expected to learn the diversified approaches to any specific literary work.
