Modern British Sitcoms, Translation and Appreciation

The course aims to better prepare students for future job opportunities in translation by enriching students’ understanding of modern British society through a diverse range of popular British TV sitcoms featuring all walks of modern London life including hoteliers, con artists, nerds, actors and health professionals. The syllabus is designed to engage students in class discussions regarding cultural difference, possible interpretations and applications. By introducing different topics every two weeks, the syllabus also allows flexibility for students to pursue particular topics of interest in the field of translation and enables them to develop a critical understanding of the English language.
